- Modeling animal motion can help develop efficient models for robot locomotion. The basic coordination of this motion does not require the brain and is largely controlled by the animal's spinal chord. Auke Ijspeert (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) has built a salamander robot controlled in this manner.

- The transformations undergone by the points in the plane can be modeled as the effect of projecting points on a (moving) sphere into the plane. This model is attributed to the mathematician Berhard Riemann and goes by the name, "Riemann Sphere".

- Manufacturers recommend replacing oil and filter once every 7500 miles typically. I recommend changing oil every 4000 miles if you want your car to run trouble free forever, and save money on gas along the way. Don't forget to dispose of the oil safely at your local collection center or curbside if your garbage company accepts it. Synthetic oils may require changing less often, but cost a lot more than organic oil. And remember to use the right grade of oil specified by your car's manufacturer to avoid damage to your engine and to get better fuel efficiency.

- Tire guages cost a few dollars at most auto parts stores or department stores. Get one that reads no more than 50psi. If you get one that reads upto 120PSI, you are not getting more for your money. It will be inaccurate in the range 25-40PSI where most auto tires are inflated. I measure air pressure every time I change oil and inflate as needed. At a minimum, check and inflate tires when the seasons change. When the weather cools, tires will be underinflated and you will burn more gas. When the weather warms up, tires will be overinflated and affect safety.

- Shop around and get the cheapest gas you can buy. And get the lowest octane your car will accept. Modern cars have knock sensors that minimize pinging automatically. Save your money for other things.
